On March 4, 2007, Williams Brothers Construction Co. was the low bidder on a $215 million section of SH161 through Grand Prairie, Texas (see graphic below). The project resembles a Katy Freeway project in size and schedule. Phase 1 is scheduled to open in August 2009. Phase 2 is scheduled to open in December 2010. Incentives have included in the contract for early completion. The project scope is significant. The majority of the project is bridgework consisting of 45,000 ft of drilled shafts, 60,000 cubic yards of substructure concrete, 384,000 ft of concrete beams, 10 million lbs. of structural steel, and 3.1 million square feet of bridge deck. The road work consists of, 700,000 cubic yards of embankment, 250,000 square yards of lime treated subgrade, and 240,000 square yards of concrete paving.
